The energy audit is the process of analyzing and interpreting the level of energy consumption for a building, during which the level of consumption is evidenced for each specific process and system that consumes energy. At the same time, the energy audit is the first step towards the identification of all energy losses in a building. After identifying and calculating energy costs and savings, the final goal is to report these results and highlight the measures to be taken in order to improve energy efficiency.

Energy performance certification of buildings should be mandatory for:

all buildings or units of buildings, which are to be sold or leased;
all buildings, which will be built or undergo significant renovation (over 25%);
all buildings that are in use by a public authority or by institutions that provide a service to the public and that are frequently visited by the public, which have a usable area of more than 250 m2. In this case, the energy performance certificates must be placed in places clearly visible to the public.
